Short answer: Book online with IDP or the British Council. You need a valid passport, a test date and ৳31,100. Pay by card, bKash or Nagad. Computer test results come in 3–5 working days.
Checked on 30 October 2026 on IDP Bangladesh and the British Council Bangladesh. Check the official sites before you pay.
Before you book: three decisions
- Which version. Academic for universities, General Training for work and migration (including Canada's Express Entry), IELTS for UKVI only if a UK visa asks for it. Not sure? Read Academic or General Training: which one do you need.
- When. Leave at least 4–6 weeks before your university or visa deadline, so you have time for a retake if you need one.
- Where. IDP runs computer test centres in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal and Cumilla. The British Council also runs tests in Dhaka and other cities. The fee is the same everywhere.
What you need
- A valid passport. You register with your passport and bring the same original passport on test day, including for Speaking. If you don't have a passport yet, apply for it first.
- A scan of the passport to upload (IDP asks for JPEG, PNG or PDF under 1.5MB).
- The fee: ৳31,100 for IELTS on computer, ৳34,850 for UKVI. See the full fee list.
How to book, step by step
- Go to the IDP Bangladesh or British Council Bangladesh IELTS booking page.
- Choose the test type (Academic, General Training or UKVI) and "IELTS on computer".
- Choose your city, centre and date. Your Speaking test may be on the same day or a few days before or after.
- Fill in your details exactly as they appear in your passport.
- Upload your passport scan.
- Pay. IDP accepts card online, bKash, Nagad, or cash at an IDP office.
- Check your email for the booking confirmation and your Speaking time.
On test day
- Arrive early with your original passport. Without it you cannot sit the test.
- Listening, Reading and Writing are done on a computer in one sitting, about 2 hours 40 minutes. Speaking is face to face with an examiner, 11–14 minutes.
- You get scrap paper for notes. Phones and watches stay outside.
If you have never used the computer format, practise it first. Our free IELTS mock tests look and work like the real computer test, including the timer, highlighting and the word count in Writing.
After the test
- Results: 3–5 working days for the computer test, online first.
- Missed your target in one module? One Skill Retake (৳18,600) lets you retake just that module within 60 days, if your university or visa office accepts it.
- Think a score is wrong? A recheck (Enquiry on Results) costs ৳10,500.
- Changing your date: a transfer costs ৳3,000. Cancelling five weeks or more before the test refunds 75% of the fee.
Ready before you book?
Booking is the easy part; the score is what matters. Before you pay ৳31,100:
- Take a free band check to see where you are.
- Work through the IELTS guides for the question types you get wrong.
- Book a Speaking mock with a real examiner to find out your Speaking band before the real one.
